C.E. Thompson & Sons is located in historic Edinburg on 201 Stoney Creek Blvd., we have been serving the Shenandoah Valley since 1958. After working many years in the construction business, Mr. Clarence E. Thompson (C.E.) and his sons William (Billy) and John saw a need for a building materials supply and a construction company. C.E. was a construction foreman for the CCC's at Camp Roosevelt and later worked construction jobs in Pennsylvania sending money home to his family. He passed his lifelong skills on to his sons Billy and Johnny.

After stints in the United States Navy, Billy and Johnny, along with their father, took their know-how to Newman Building Materials in Timberville. All three could see a better life in their future by having a business of their own, therefore they each put $3000.00 of their own money into starting C.E. Thompson & Sons Corp. They started out as a small hardware store carrying Pittsburgh Paint and numerous building materials and a construction company. The original business was in the former King Cola bottling plant (now Three Brothers Used Furniture) on West Piccadilly Street in Edinburg.

After sixteen years they outgrew the location on Piccadilly Street and in 1974 the business moved to its present location. The back part of the present location had been a Studebaker warehouse and an apple packing plant. The Thompsons' used their carpentry skills and added a metal building on to the front for the showroom.

C.E. retired not long after the move and in 1984 his son Billy died, leaving the responsibility of the business in Johnny's hands. In time, Johnny's children, Harris, Mary Beth, and Ann became owners and along with their father continued the family business. In 2010 when Johnny was diagnosed with Cancer he continued in a semi-retirement position until his passing in July of that same year.

The Thompson families reside in Edinburg and are committed to the preservation and growth of Edinburg and Shenandoah County. Over the years, Johnny served in various volunteer organizations in the community such as: Edinburg Heritage Foundation, Lions Club, Edinburg Museum, Edinburg Ole Time Festival Committee, St. Johns United Methodist Church, Edinburg Pool & Park, Cub Scouts, Boys Scouts, and the American Cancer Society and his family continues to serve their community in many government, civic and religious roles.

At present, Harris, Mary Beth and Ann are continuing the growth and development of C.E. Thompson and Sons. The business has grown and continues to grow as a result of their combined talents and expertise. C.E. Thompson & Sons is an Ace Contractor Center, Ace Commercial Industrial Dealer, Commercial and Residential builder, equipped with a design center and a large garden center.
